Hanna Torin joined Tempcon with no background in the transport industry. After a few months at group level, she has seen what is hard to spot from the outside \u2013 the pace at the terminals, the expertise behind it and how much knowledge the employees hold. Now she wants that knowledge to be shared even more among the people at Tempcon.<\/em><\/p>\n

Hanna joined Tempcon Group this summer as People, Culture & Project Coordinator. She studied work science and worked part-time as a real estate assistant during her studies. But what has shaped her view of people comes above all from football. She has played since she was nine, has coached for seven years and is today a coach at Hittarps IK. She is also an instructor for the Sk\u00e5ne Football Association.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m passionate about supporting people and being there for them \u2013 creating the conditions for others to succeed. I care a lot about people and believe everyone should be doing well,\u201d says Hanna Torin.<\/em><\/p>\n

More hands than you\u2019d think<\/h3>\n

Hanna came to Tempcon with no background in transport, and at first she thought the job was basically about moving goods from A to B. Over her first months, that picture has changed.<\/p>\n

What has surprised her most is how many people need to be involved for a single delivery to go right, and how much depends on the details.<\/p>\n

The size of the company also came as a surprise. She had no idea that Tempcon has around 1,200 employees.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought we were smaller, but we\u2019re so much bigger. It was a positive insight when I started. And now that I think about our logo, you see it absolutely everywhere, all the time.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The pace \u2013 and the expertise behind it<\/h3>\n

Out at the terminals she has met many different employees, and the first thing she noticed was the pace. Forklifts drive back and forth, goods are unloaded from the trucks and the next load is already on its way in.<\/p>\n

For someone coming from an office, it can be hard to understand how anyone keeps track of everything that is going on. But the employees have structure, and it is a skill that only becomes visible when you are standing in the middle of it.<\/p>\n

It is also the people she highlights when the conversation turns to the cold chain. Asked to finish the sentence \u201cTechnology can monitor the cold chain, but\u2026\u201d, she replies:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the employees who do the work.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

An industry that deserves a stronger story<\/h3>\n

If she has to pick one role that is underestimated in the industry, it is the driver. From the outside, it may look as if the job is simply about driving from A to B, but there is a lot to think about and do along the way.<\/p>\n

The driver shortage is a recurring issue in the industry, and Hanna believes part of the explanation lies in how the profession has looked and been described. Working as a driver or at a terminal is physically demanding and male-dominated, and historically it has not been presented as an obvious choice for girls and women.<\/p>\n

Tempcon visits schools to spark interest in the profession, and part of the ambition is to bring in more women \u2013 both because they are needed and to create a more gender-equal industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe it\u2019s also about how people talk about the job,\u201d says Hanna.<\/em><\/p>\n

Knowledge should be shared<\/h3>\n

Tempcon consists of several companies, each with its own history and culture. What they have in common, Hanna says, is that they all do the same thing and are driven by the same goals. That is why she wants experience to be shared even more between employees across the companies.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone at another subsidiary may already have the solution to a problem. We\u2019re all in the same boat. We already do this a lot, but we can do even more. That\u2019s what Forward as one is about \u2013 moving forward together, both as a team and together with our customers.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the tools is the Tempcon app, where the management system, the staff handbook and news are gathered and reach every employee. Right now, Hanna is working with the results of the recently completed employee survey.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been out visiting the companies, so I have a fair idea of what the employees are talking about. That makes it easier to follow up on the results.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Why it matters to the customer<\/h3>\n

For Hanna, employee development is directly linked to the company\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout our people, we have no company.
