Today, 12 November, marks Kollegahjälpen Day – a day to celebrate and raise awareness of the invaluable work Kollegahjälpen (Colleague help) does for our truck drivers. Here’s an overview of what Kollegahjälpen is and why it is such an essential resource for both our drivers and the industry as a whole.
Kollegahjälpen was established in 2000 by TYA and Sveriges Åkeriföretag (The Swedish Association of Road Transport Companies) to support truck drivers who have experienced difficult situations, such as road accidents. Through a network of trained Kollegahjälpare (peer supporters), drivers are offered conversational support to process their experiences and move forward with their lives.
If a truck driver has been involved in a road accident or another serious incident, they – or a family member, employer, or colleague – can contact Kollegahjälpen. By calling 020-59 60 00, the caller is connected to SOS Alarm, which then contacts the Kollegahjälpare geographically closest to the driver.
The support is available regardless of whether the incident happened recently or several years ago.
For truck drivers, the road is their workplace, but it is also one of the most dangerous. Accidents and serious incidents can happen at any time, and receiving timely support after such events is crucial for processing what has occurred. Kollegahjälpen provides a safe and reliable resource where drivers can get help from someone who understands the challenges and daily realities of the industry.
