During the pandemic, there were several different exemptions for the validity period of YKB. Normally, you have to renew your training every five years in order to continue driving professionally. Since 1 November, however, there are no more exemptions and everyone whose YKB certificate has expired must now have completed their continuing education just as before.
In 2021, there was also the option to complete their entire continuing education in 35 hours completely digitally. That opportunity has now been gone for a while and now there is once again a maximum of twelve hours of YKB continuing education that may be conducted digitally. However, all distance learning hours completed before December 31, 2021 are approved, but if you have attended at least one distance learning course during your ongoing YKB continuing education period, you cannot attend any more digital courses in that period. At the end of the summer, however, the government tasked the Swedish Transport Agency with investigating how training for professional driver competence can be developed using distance learning to make it easier to train more professional drivers. The Swedish Transport Agency must report the assignment to the Government Office by 15 December 2023 at the latest.
